SCHOOL SUCKS: Pronoun Magic! Tips For Aspiring Politicians/Criminals

"We" is a powerful and dangerous word.  And peaceful people should avoid using it when talking about the actions of violent strangers. Imagine you lived in a neighborhood controlled by a violent gang... What if you started using first-person plural pronouns, like "we," "us'" and "our" when discussing the gang and their activities, even though you were not in the gang, you didn't know anyone in the gang, and no one in the gang knew or cared about you? Is it possible this linguistic programming could eventually lead you to identify with the gang and accepting their activities? Or resistance to the idea that what they were doing was wrong?  What if everybody in the neighborhood started doing this? Based ...

106: A Young Person’s Guide To Politics (Appendix A) – Ron Paul, The Final Fantasy

Over two years ago, we discussed the futility and the dangers associated with believing in the possibility government solutions to government problems. Today, there are two growing movements that may lure young people into the cage match of political participation. Topic: Stephanie Murphy and George Mandrik join me to discuss their experiences and lessons learned from the 2008 Ron Paul Presidential Campaign. We also ruminate on what motivates people to participate in politics in the first place. Bumper Music: "Angry Young Man" Billy Joel Look Closer; "Democracy--the ...

059: Escape From Imaginationland (1 of 3) – The Set-Up

A stand-alone episode of School Sucks Podcast...in three parts. Critical Thinking Question: What are some strategies you could use to tell the difference between having a debate with someone, and watching them have an anxiety attack? Topic: This (first part of three) is a set-up for a two-part discussion I recently had with Wes Bertrand. On September 18th, I tried to weave a series of loosely related thoughts together into one topic, while driving. I wasn't thrilled with the result. I eventually contacted Wes to help me try to make sense of it all. This is an examination of how fantasy is used to manage personal and/or political anxiety, the relationship between the personal and the political, and how outrage ...

030 (Supplemental): Ian Freeman and I Discuss Action As Education

Some additional content from my discussion with Ian Freeman of Free Talk Live, edited out of Episode 15. We cover the Free State Project, Keene, activism for liberty, and the return-on-investment of political action and civil disobedience. Most importantly, we discuss the combination of action and an educational message. NOTE: The first minute of the discussion overlaps one minute of Episode 15 for context. NOTE: I call this recent tea party movement "stupid" because I feel it completely misses the point and I'm pretty sure it will simply vanish after Obama leaves office. NOTE: Not a blanket endorsement of civil disobedience. For more info, please check out the earlier Supplemental with Wes, Daniel and I. Or the Freedomain Roundtable on ...

010: (Hidden Lesson Two) The Silencing of the Self

The second episode in a series aimed at detailing and dismantling specific elements of the destructive hidden curriculum in public education. Critical Thinking Question: Consider for a moment the amazing and wonderful diversity of human beings: in thought, ambition, imagination and creativity... Why would certain people want to reduce so many unique individuals to a point where they can easily fit into a uniform and homogeneous group? Topic: The second embedded lesson of public education: Conformity This is what Alexander Inglis called the "Integrating Function" of secondary education. We certainly pick it up in elementary school as well. And who has benefited? “There is no neutral education.
