Orwell Rolls In His Grave – Part 1 [Un-iversity Documentary Club]

In 2003, a group of lefties came together to make the case that conservatives control the mainstream media. Almost 20 years later, many of their concerns and criticisms actually seem pretty reasonable. In our first meeting of Documentary Club, we watch the first 30 minutes of the film (in 10-minute segments) and then we respond in a group discussion.  This whole discussion will come in 3 parts. Here is the full documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8L7_bVU1c0 Part of the Un-iversity Weekly Discussion Group Series A new weekly conversation about applying the lessons and practices of The Ideas Into Action Summit   to the chaos of the current world. [UN-IVERSITY] Opening the Kept Gates

Richard Grove and I use the work of investigative journalist Matt Taibbi as a jumping off point to discuss how gatekeepers can be useful to help "on ramp" people stuck on the low roads of mainstream confirmation-bias media to ride on a better super highway of information, if you will. Furthermore, are we building (or can we build) a map that helps to open some of their gates. This exploration was inspired by our recent integral theory series. Where else can we discover ways to integrate disparate or even conflicting sources of information into a clearer picture of reality? (Recorded October 7th) Part of the Un-iversity Weekly Discussion Group Series A new weekly conversation about applying the lessons and practices ...

[UN-IVERSITY] The Tim Pool Deep End

For the record, Tim did not request our constructive criticism and I have great respect for him and for his work. Among other topics discussed, Kevin Cole and I talk about some things we'd like to see him do. All News Is Fake News – With Isaac Morehouse [PODCAST #667]

Isaac returns to discuss how he curates his inputs from the outside world, for optimal achievement, mental health, and happiness. We build our discussion around a blog he wrote recently (same title as this show). It's short and sweet, so here it is: There is infinite information in the universe. Any time you select a tiny slice of info and focus on it, you are creating a story that is different from reality itself. Imagine a movie sliced into a million still screenshots. Say it was impossible to watch the movie and your only way of interacting with it was with these screenshots. If someone picked three of them and presented it to you as the “truth” of the movie, ...

[BONUS] Protest and Programming – AUTONOMY Mastermind 4-21-20

The 1997 film Wag the Dog forever ruined photos like this for me. But if you've never seen Wag the Dog, enjoy this powerful piece of honest photojournalism. It allegedly shows nurses blocking protesters in Colorado, and more importantly, it clearly illustrates the ONLY two positions you can have on the COVID issue. So who's side are you on? The responsible science-and-medicine (dude has scrubs on!) heroes? Or the fat freedom-lovin' Trump-worshipers who are so angry and stupid that they're practically falling out of their gas-guzzling pickup trucks? What other choice could there be? A discussion about the current (largely misguided) lock-down protests, insulting media counter-narratives, use of celebrities in public perception management, competing groups of useful idiots, ideology, and ...
