How Usefully Idiotic Are We? [PODCAST #678]

Play

Professor CJ returns to discuss the history of divide-and-conquer and divide-and-rule strategies, and as a bonus, how to avoid being what the Russians called a "useful idiot" in one these schemes.

Unanimity [literally of one mind] is a sad and dangerous thing on a national scale. But so is a civil war.

This year the American people were offered a chance to find common cause in a crisis. But the government and media seemed to encourage them to fight over mask-wearing instead.

You remember right? It was right around the time the average person was starting to feel the impact of overreactive lockdown polices. (April and May)

And when the mask fight starting getting worn out, surprise!
Time for a race war. (June-September)

Is this just the state of things? Is it just the tension of a pandemic or an election year? Or are we the targets of some new version of one the oldest tricks in the history book?

We'll also discuss foreign subversion, referencing a former-KGB operative's revelations about the Soviet strategy of demoralizing and destabilizing the American people during the cold war.

CJ is the host of the spectacular Dangerous History Podcast. We'll be basing our discussion around an episode of his show called DEp. 0205: Divide & Conquer, Divide & Rule
