Hey, I just wanted to comment on the Murder-Rates-table that is shown here: I think it gives a false impression to state that German handgun policy is “allowed”. Handguns are generally prohibited here, but it is possible to get a government permit to have one. This is a pretty difficult process: you will have to prove that you have a need for a handgun and that you know how to deal with it. Even if you are allowed to have one, there are lots of strict regulations on how to keep and carry it. If I would have to put either the “allowed” or the “banned” tag on Germanys handgun policy, I would choose “banned”.
I looked up the Luxembourg murder rate on Wikipedia because I was suprised that it is so high. On Wikipedia it says that the rate is only 2.5. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

So, in short I distrust this infographic. Another reason is that the comparision between Russia and Norway/Finland takes only the handgun policy as possible explanatory reason for the difference in murder rate into account. I could think of quite a lot of other differences between these countries that could explain the difference in the murder rate.

Please don`t get me wrong, I am not arguing for a ban on guns! Even though I imagine that if I would live in an anarchic society I might choose a neighborhood in which the provider of security/infrastrucure would implement gun control.

    Thanks!
    David
